The Effects of Eating Disorders on The Skeletal System
Anorexia Nervosa
Now you people that I probably don't know reading this may be thinking, "Anorexia is an eating disorder, how would it affect the skeletal system?" Well my friend that I don't know, everything in our body is connected so when something happens that affects our body it affects everything in our body. Now, anorexia does terrible things to all parts of the body but we're only talking about the skeletal system so if you don't like the skeletal system then too bad for you. When someone has anorexia they don't eat much so they can't get good nutrients or calcium that could lead to early osteoporosis, a disease that causes thinning of the bones and makes them weak and fragile, as a result, anorexics are much more prone to bone damage and breakage than the normal human being. When the bones are weak they are also prone to bending, meaning that if you are an extreme anorexic you have a huge risk of looking like a person who's been in the saddle way too long and walking like a very strange penguin. Oh, one other tiny little detail, emphasis on tiny and little, since your bones aren't getting nutrients they can't grow, if your bones can't grow you can't get taller, if you can't get taller then there is a possibility of being teased, many anorexics are below average height and may remain that way unless they quit early on so make sure you eat enough everyday and don't obsess too much about weight. Right, to the cheerful land of bulimia!
Bulimia Nervosa
Bulimia takes a terrible toll on your body and the skeletal system takes quite a bit of that damage, some of it caused by gross things so be warned! Bulimics binge then purge and most bulimics purge by vomiting up the food they ate but doing this also makes them hack up stomach acids that burn the mouth and make it swell, but it also causes the teeth to wear away quickly and deals a great amount of damage on the enamel in your teeth, often the easiest way to tell if someone is a bulimic is to look at their teeth because they look gross and broken and yellow if the person vomits a lot (I'm sorry if you're having something to eat while reading this). Also, since a bulimic eats a ton of junk food and unhealthy food their bones are usually malnourished so their at risk for bone damage and breakage. Let us quest on brave people, to binge eating disorder we shall march!
Binge Eating Disorder (BED)
BED, like every other eating disorder I've mentioned so far, is terrible for your health and damages you skeletal system in a couple different ways, none of which I recommend for sore throats and coughs, shall we begin announcer who was never mentioned and doesn't actually exist? "Yes we should Ben!" Great, then let's get going. Binge Eating Disorder usually makes you obese and when you have obesity you are much more likely to get arthritis early in your life so your always trembling like you've been deeply disturbed or have gone insane. Like bulimia people with binge eating disorder eat a lot of high fat, salt, and sugar foods so again the bones don't get the nutrients they need and are weak, but since BED makes you obese (Usually) the extra weight means that your bones can bend over time and make you look like you're waddling all the time. I do believe that's all the information I have on the subject, join us next week for a discussion about "Nyan Cat, Real or Not?"
